From the Missouri House of Representatives:
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – This week, State Representative Bennie Cook welcomed students from District 143 to the Capitol to participate in the FCCLA Job Shadow Project.
The FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is a national student organization that focuses on family and consumer sciences and operates within the school system. Students participate in varying competitive events, engage in community service, and student leadership opportunities, where they obtain skills that are applicable for real-word application in careers and continuing education.
This year’s participants included Shavon Moss and Mary Taff, seniors from Cabool High School. The students shadowed Rep. Cook throughout the day, gaining a firsthand look at the legislative process. Their visit included an introduction on the House floor, observing House proceedings, attending a Professional Registration Committee meeting alongside Rep. Cook, and taking a guided tour of the Capitol’s Whispering Gallery and dome.
Cook, R-Houston, shared his excitement about the event, saying, “Opportunities like the FCCLA Job Shadow Project help students see firsthand how government works and the many ways they can make a difference. It’s a privilege to host these bright young leaders and show them the inner workings of the Capitol. Their involvement in FCCLA is setting them up for a lifetime of success.”
