Burglary and Harassment Charges Filed on Kansas City Man

A  man is facing felony charges after deputies say he unlawfully entered a woman’s residence and threatened her while she slept.

According to a probable cause statement from the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on June 28 to a home on State Route FF after the victim reported waking up to Eric J. Hogard lying in bed beside her. She told investigators Hogard had “cuddled up” next to her and claimed he had already “taken out” a witness before telling her she needed to leave with him.

The victim escaped to the main residence and called law enforcement. She also reported that Hogard had repeatedly contacted her in recent days, professing love and threatening to kill both her and a witness if she refused to be with him — including threats to “chop them up with a chainsaw.”

Deputies say Hogard was already out on bond from a June 26 arrest involving allegations of burglary, threats, drug possession, and throwing rocks at the victims’ vehicle.

Prosecutors have now charged Hogard, who’s address is listed as Kansas City, with first‑degree burglary and second‑degree harassment. Deputies noted he poses a danger to the victim and community due to repeated threats and returning to the same residence twice in two days.
