Damage assessments are currently underway, with additional assessments set to be conducted by the American Red Cross in the coming days. Coldiron emphasized the importance of patience, as this process takes time. The local emergency management team remains committed to supporting the community throughout this challenging period.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant against scammers posing as FEMA representatives or contractors falsely claiming that FEMA will cover their repair costs. Reports of such fraudulent activities have already surfaced. Anyone encountering individuals misrepresenting FEMA should immediately contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Coldiron assured the community that official FEMA assessments will commence only after an official disaster declaration is issued. At that time, further details will be provided regarding assessment locations and procedures.

For those needing assistance or wishing to report damages, the United Way offers a confidential 24-hour call center accessible by dialing 211. Additionally, the American Red Cross remains stationed at the First United Methodist Church in West Plains to accommodate overnight needs as of March 16. Their hotline, available 24/7, can be reached at 1-866-206-0256.

Coldiron extended prayers to those affected and appreciation to first responders working tirelessly to aid in recovery efforts. He reaffirmed the community’s resilience, stating, “We will recover.”
