Country legend Suzy Bogguss to present a free concert at ASUMH

Arkansas State University-Mountain Home will present Suzy Bogguss on Thursday, April 10, in a free concert sponsored by the Arvest Concert Series.  No tickets are required for the free show and seating is first-come, first-served in the Ed Coulter Performing Arts Center inside the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the ASUMH campus.

During the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s, Grammy winner Suzy Bogguss sold 4 million records with sparkling radio hits like “Outbound Plane,” “Someday Soon,” “Letting Go,” “Drive South,” and “Hey, Cinderella.” In the midst of her country popularity, she made albums with the legendary Chet Atkins and Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel. An album of original music in 2007 landed her on the jazz charts, and her folk music roots show through in her frequent appearances on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion.  Her latest offering, “Prayin’ For Sunshine,” is an Americana tour de force.

Suzy’s awards include:
Top New Female Vocalist in 1989 by the Academy of Country Music
Horizon Award by the Country Music Association
Album of the Year for “Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles” by the Country Music Association
Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album, “Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster”
Founder’s Choice by the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum’s Hal of Fame

In the 1990’s, six of her songs were Top 10 hits, three albums were certified gold, and one album received a platinum certification.

The ASUMH performing arts series has brought performers to north central Arkansas for thirteen seasons to educate, enlighten and entertain audiences. In the fall of 1998, the Bank of Yellville, now Arvest Bank, endowed the ASUMH Arvest Concert Series. The concert series presents annual shows open to students and the public at no charge as part of the college’s annual performing arts series.
