Coyote Breeding Season Upcoming; MDC Suggests Tips for Avoidance

It’s February, and that means the breeding season has started for coyote. Unfortunately, this means that coyote activity will spike during this time period, leading to more encounters, especially to those of us who live outside of more urban environments. The Missouri Department of Conservation issued an awareness warning that goes as follows:

“…Unlike many other kinds of wildlife, coyotes adapt particularly well around human development and coexist with people in many places…

…As a result, it’s possible for encounters to occur between these wild canines and people’s pets.  Coyotes have also been known on occasion to attack small dogs…”

For Ozarkians with small dogs, cats, chickens, or otherwise, these hunter/scavengers can provide no small amount of headache. The MDC warns people to be vigilant at this time and ensure you don’t leave food outside and keep a close watch on your pets, and offers more advice on their article.
