Dickerson Park’s Endangered Monkey Twins Finally Out For Viewing

Missouri – Not too long ago, the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield grew when their cotton-top tamarins were born. Now they have two new babies for people to see when they visit the zoo. When they were born, the zoo had grown by 3 when the monkeys had triplets. In a Facebook post from the zoo on August 3, we found out that, sadly, only two of the babies survived, and are growing strong and are looking forward to the visitors. Dickerson Park Zoo’s employee, Joey Powell, gave people advice on seeing the babies in an interview with Ozark First, saying, “Once you get to the flamingos, slow down just a little bit and keep the kids quiet and you keep quiet. Just approach slowly and there’s a good chance you’re going to see them.”

When looking for the babies, look at the mom’s back, they will cling here for the first couple of months. They have access to indoors and outdoors and constantly travel back and forth between the two. These babies were born on July 29, 2024, to mom Kiki and dad Super Cutie.

Cotton-top tamarins are one of the world’s most critically endangered species. This birth is a huge event considering there are fewer than 6,000 cotton-top tamarins left in the wild. They are only found in the forests of northwest Colombia.
