Ava, MO. – Every year, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office puts a lot of efforts into their Coats for Kids Program, and this year included the delivery of over 175 coats.
This program started in 2009 as a branch of the Shop with a Cop program. “Every year, the parents would want to spend a portion of that money to buy the kids coats…” This was said by Sheriff Chris Degase. “I can’t stand to see a kid cold, and that was kind of a driving factor behind it.”
This program is funded through sponsorships from local businesses. This year’s list included the Ava Sonic, Jim’s Body Shop, Ed’s Towng, PC Express, Copeland, and Cash Gas.
This year’s program appears to have ended with a great deal of success, as over 175 coats were distributed to the Ava, Plainview, and Skyline Schools.
This latest value has added up to a total ov over 2000 coats being distributed since the program began.
