West Plains, MO – The Harlin Museum announced the winners of their 46th Annual Fall Art Show, which will be on display in the museum’s Hathcock Gallery through Sunday, November 7th.
The winner of Best of Show, which will receive a $500 award generously donated by West Plains Savings & Loan, is the acrylic painting entry titled Mama’s Hands, a high-contrast realism-style portrait of a woman’s feminine-yet-slightly-dirt-blackened hands, with fingernails painted red, clutching a wrench in her hands. The artist taking this top prize is Kayla McBride of Bakersfield, MO, who says that the painting’s inspiration was her mother.
The fine art competition included both youth and adult divisions, with adults’ entries being divided into 2D or 3D, novice or advanced categories of paintings, graphics (drawings), mixed media, and sculpture, as well as a digital art category for adults and youth. In total, the juried competition received 123 entries from all over the Ozarks.
In the Adult/2D/Fine Arts/Novice Division (Paintings Category), the winner of 1st place is the entry, Moment Of Decision a colorful acrylic painting of a fish underwater, painted by John Cash of West Plains, MO. The 2nd place winner is, Mourning Dove, a large orange and brown-toned acrylic painting of a bird by Adam Rocuant of Summersville, MO. 3rd place is awarded to Untitled #9, an abstract watercolor by T. Fenske of West Plains, MO, and Honorable Mentions go to Blue-Grey Gnat Catcher & Green-Cheeked Conure, bright and colorful acrylic renderings of birds, both by Adam Rocuant of Summersville, MO.
The Adult/2D/Fine Arts/Advanced Division (Paintings Category) was the most competitive category of the competition, with 41 advanced artist paintings entered for consideration. The 1st place winner, Happy Haitian Girl, is an oil on canvas portrait of the face of a smiling island girl painted by Bonnie Heenean of Gassville, AR. The 2nd place award goes to entry A Place Foretold, a lovely acrylic painting by Raymond Popp of Mountain Grove, MO. And 3rd place is awarded to the entry named Gold Dust Woman, a renaissance-style portrait of a red-haired woman by Ruth Kelley of West Plains, MO. The Honorable Mentions of this category are, The Golden Hour, the incredible oil on canvas painting of a river reflecting golden light onto the cliffside riverbank by Lee Copen of Mountain View, MO, along with the blue floral watercolor, Morning Glories, by Carrie McIntosh of Elizabeth, AR.
In the Adult/2D/Fine Arts/Novice Division (Graphics Category) 1st place is awarded to, Curiosity, a graphite pencil rendition of a wide-eyed toddler in overalls by Tabitha Odle of Willow Springs, MO. Tabitha Odle also took 2nd place with her graphite drawing entry, Mary At The Cross. The 3rd place award goes to entry, Drawing Of A Woman, a pencil portrait by Adam Rocuant of Summersville, MO.
In the Adult/2D/Fine Arts/Advanced Division (Graphics Category), the 1st place winner is the color pencil entry, Soul Of A Zebra by Brenda Taylor of West Plains, MO. The 2nd place winner is the graphite pencil drawing of girl in a baseball cap, Ellies, by Jennifer Beach of West Plains, MO, and 3rd Place goes to entry, Big Momma by Kayla McBride of Bakersfield, MO. The Honorable Mention awards go to drawing, Wolf, by Nancy Harlin of West Plains, MO and Smorgasbord, a colored pencil drawing of butterflies feasting by Raymond Popp of Mountain Grove, MO
In the Adult/2D/Fine Arts (Mixed Media Category), the winner of 1st place is the ostrich portrait, Frazzled, by Brenda Taylor of West Plains, MO. 2nd place goes to the watercolor and ink reptilian entry, Nathan’s Snake, also by Brenda Taylor of West Plains, MO. And 3rd place is awarded to Colorado Elk by Laura Bales of West Plains, MO
In the Adult/3D (Sculpture Category, the winner for 1st Place is the clay entry, Fairy Tree House by Cathy Roberts of Summersville, MO. The 2nd place winner, Teal Ribbon, is a lovely statuesque figure of a woman draped in fabric and created from clay by Kayla McBride of Bakersfield, MO. Then, 3 rd place is awarded to the polymer clay entry, Blue Dragon, by Carmen Utley of Mountain View, MO.
Then, in the Adult–Digital Arts Category, the winner for 1st place is Heiley With Fireflies by Ann Kulpa of Cabool, MO, 2nd place goes to algorithmic art entry, Twin Flames, as well as 3rd place for digital still entry, Lineup, both by John Fenske of West Plains, MO.
And, finally, the Youth Arts Category winners are:
1st Place: Triptic (Graphite Drawing) by Clarissa Hulse of Bucyrus, MO
2nd Place: Pirate Ship (Oil Painting) by Clarissa Hulse of Bucyrus, MO
3rd Place: Diamond In The Dirt (Pixel Art/Digital Still) by Vale Fenske of West Plains, MO
And Honorable Mentions, Lion (Graphite Drawing), and, Senorita (Graphite Drawing), both by Clarissa Hulse of Bucyrus, MO
The winners of the final awards of the show, such as the People’s Choice Award, will be decided by the public through online voting on Facebook, which begins Wednesday, November 3rd on the Harlin Museum’s FB page (@HarlinMuseumWP). Voting ends at 2pm on Sunday, November 7th.
