Rover, MO. – The Missouri Department of Conservation invites the public to improve their firearms skills at a trapshooting class in May. This is set to take place in Rover, the small town between West Plains and Alton. This is being organized by the Rover Gun Club, and will happen on May 6th from 9am to noon, and 1pm to 4pm.
Trap is a competitive shooting activity where clay targets are launched from one “house” which is located 16 yards in front of the shooter. Targets are launched in a 44-degree fan pattern – some are launched straight away from the shooter, while others are launched at angles to the left or right. The height of the launch can also be varied.

MDC Conservation Educator Sarah Elrod will cover common trap-related topics, including how the game of trap works, how to mount your gun, hold points, break points, forward allowance, and what type of guns, and loads work best.
“This program is intended for those who have had some experience with shotguns,” Elrod said. “We’ll cover safety, appropriate guns and ammunition, rules of the game, etiquette on the field, and field layout. Firearms and ammunition will be provided, or you can bring your own.”
