The United States Postal Service (USPS) will suspend mail delivery on Thursday, January 9, to honor the late former President Jimmy Carter, as President Joe Biden has declared the day a National Day of Mourning. This coincides with Carter’s official state funeral at the Washington National Cathedral. USPS offices and facilities will be closed, though limited package delivery will continue to prevent disruptions in operations. Regular mail service will resume on Friday. Additionally, all Postal Service facilities will fly the U.S. flag at half-staff until sunset on January 29 in Carter’s honor. The National Day of Mourning will also see the closure of the U.S. Supreme Court, the stock market, and other government offices.
