Ozark Artery to Bring “Car Culture” to Next Art Show Next Month

West Plains, MO. – Ozark Artery is set to host a car and vehicle-themed art show in partnership with the Yellow House. Bradley Mitchell, an Ozark Artery participant who suggested the theme for the show, notes the many ways cars and “car culture” have influenced media and had a significant impact on society, from music to television to movies and more. As for how that translates to an art show, Mitchell has some suggestions, “Maybe recreate a vintage family car photo or even paint an image of an iconic car from television. I really love how lowrider culture, for example, inspires epic murals. Maybe use that kind of inspiration to do a painting that captures our local culture.”

This will be a multi-media 2D show, which can include, but is not limited to, paintings, drawings, photos, mixed media, collages, and graphic design. Any medium is acceptable. Smaller three-dimensional pieces will be considered if they can be safely wall-displayed, but all pieces must be suitably wired for hanging.

Ozark Artery President Terry Hampton adds, “There are many ways to interpret the theme, such as photos, paintings or drawings of cars, trucks or tractors; up-close renderings of details of glass or chrome; landscapes which include abandoned vehicles; or even using something like the kind of flames often seen on hot rods as a starting point, perhaps even in an abstract way. While the subject matter should in some way be inspired by motorized vehicles, artists shouldn’t be intimidated by the theme. There are lots of ways to make art in a way that will be a fit for the show.”

Entries will be accepted at the Yellow House, 209 W. Trish Knight St., from noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27. The show will be on display during the regular hours of operation of the Yellow House (Wednesdays, 11-3; Thursdays, 10-2; and during Yellow House events) through at least the second weekend of October.

A car show is being planned to be held in the parking lot across the street from the Yellow House in conjunction with the art show, date to be announced later.

This is a non-competition show, with the exception being that a People’s Choice Prize will be awarded. Each vote in choosing People’s Choice will be a $1 donation to the Artery. Artists will be encouraged to offer their work for sale, but it is not a requirement. A commission will be collected from sales.
