Jefferson City, MO. – Yesterday, the office of Governor Mike Parson confirmed that the State of Missouri will be carrying out the execution sentence of inmate Brian Dorsey today, April 9th.
The statement from the Governor reads as follows:
“Brian Dorsey punished his loving family for helping him in a time of need. His cousins invited him into their home where he was surrounded by family and friends, then gave him a place to stay. Dorsey repaid them with cruelty, inhumane violence, and murder,” Governor Parson said. “The pain Dorsey brought to others can never be rectified, but carrying out Dorsey’s sentence according to Missouri law and the Court’s order will deliver justice and provide closure.”
This comes after attempts for a clemency petition, with part of the effort coming from corrections officers who work around Dorsey on a daily basis, and even previous Missouri Supreme Court Justice Michael Wolff. One of the arguments made in this petition cites an outdated payment option for the defense which has been removed from professional practice due to monetary conflict of interest.
With the execution of Dorsey certain, the state has been focused on providing a humane execution, as current methods could involve a “cutdown” surgical procedure without anesthetics.
