Smithville, AR – April 6, 2025 – The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic incident in Smithville after deputies discovered two individuals deceased inside a home on Racoon Lane during a welfare check.
Deputies responded to 59 Racoon Lane on Sunday following a call from a concerned relative of Genevieve Whitt, who had not been heard from since a recent tornado impacted the area. Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles in the driveway but were unable to make contact at the residence. Given the concern for the occupants’ safety, deputies made the decision to forcibly enter the home.
Inside, they discovered Genevieve Whitt and her boyfriend, Danny Garner, deceased on the floor. According to authorities, Genevieve appeared to have suffered injuries consistent with being struck multiple times with a hammer, while Danny appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators later learned that the couple had recently relocated from Florida and had been living at the residence on Racoon Lane for approximately three weeks.
Both bodies were transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for official autopsies.
The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not released further details. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office.
