Two Taken into Custody After Fleeing in Douglas County

From the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department:

On June 12, 2026, at approximately 2052 hours, Sgt. A. Box, Deputy Evans, and Deputy Wilson attempted a warrant service on N Highway. Upon arrival, two subjects with active warrants fled into the woods. Sgt. Box deployed into the woods with K-9 York, who began an immediate track. Deputy Evans deployed the drone, and the suspects were located a short time later. Both suspects finally made a smart decision and surrendered before York was released for apprehension.

Taken into custody was Troy Santacroce, age 39, of Wasola, on an active Ozark County Warrant for Failure to appear on charges of possession of a controlled substance, Unlawful use of a weapon X3. Santacroce is ordered to serve 7 days in jail for failure to abide by bond conditions.

Bethany Schaefer, age 31, of Wasola, was also taken into custody on an Ozark County capias, no-bond warrant for failure to abide by the judge’s order. The original charge was for possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon X3.
Sheriff Degase would like to recognize the proactive approach of Sgt. Box and Deputies.

“Situations like this make me appreciate the resources that are available to the Deputies in Douglas County to ensure they can serve the Citizens of Douglas County as safely as possible. You can run, but you will only go to jail tired.” Sheriff Chris Degase
Both subjects are new charges in Douglas County.
