A Warrensburg man is facing charges after police say he led officers on a high‑speed pursuit that began near the Love’s truck stop and continued across multiple county roads. According to the probable cause statement, Officer Joe Barnhouse responded on June 12 to a report of a careless and imprudent driver in a gray Pontiac sedan. As Barnhouse attempted a traffic stop, the driver “rapidly accelerated” and fled, reaching speeds up to 95 miles per hour while “swerving all over both lanes” and nearly striking a semi on U.S. 60.
The pursuit was terminated when the vehicle disappeared onto County Road 1890. A short time later, deputies located the abandoned Pontiac on private property, but the driver was not found. Later that evening, Howell County deputies stopped a pickup near the same property and detained a man matching the earlier suspect. Officer Barnhouse responded and “positively identified the male subject in custody as the driver that fled earlier in the day.”
The suspect, identified in the document as Douglas Michael Patterson, is charged with resisting arrest by fleeing—creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death, and careless and imprudent driving his bond is set at $50,000.
