A Wright County man is accused of taking a stolen camper after deputies say he removed it from a Webster County business. According to the probable cause statement, Deputy Trenton Kastning was dispatched Thursday morning to Cedar Gap Central Lane for a report of a camper stolen from 2nd Amendment Gun Store. Upon arrival, he found a camper matching the description attached to a silver Dodge Durango and spoke with the driver, David Joseph Caron.
Deputies say Caron admitted he “had taken the camper… as he believed it was abandoned,” telling officers he saw a couch nearby with a “free” sign and assumed the camper was also free. The statement notes, “There was not a ‘free’ sign on the camper,” and Caron acknowledged he should not have taken it without permission. A Seymour police officer later confirmed the camper was the one reported stolen.
The camper, valued at $1,200, was towed for return to its owner, and the Durango was impounded as evidence. Caron was transported to the Wright County Jail on a charge of receiving stolen property with bond set at $2500.
