Funeral Services for Sharlene Medlock Read, Age 90 of Yukon, Missouri will be held on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026 at The Big Creek Church, Yukon, Missouri, beginning at 11:00 AM. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in The Big Creek Cemetery, Yukon, Missouri.

Sharlene Medlock Read, age 90, of Yukon, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and the wonderful staff at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
Sharlene accepted Christ at an early age and remained faithful and devoted to Him throughout her life. She was an active member of Big Creek Church for as long as her health allowed. In her final years, she made many dear friends at Licking Residential Care, where she enjoyed fellowship, activities, and the companionship of those around her.
Sharlene was a devoted mother, grandmother, and “Granny” to four generations. She freely gave her love, care, and guidance, always making sure each grandchild knew just how deeply they were loved. Christmas was especially dear to her. She spent weeks preparing beautifully wrapped gifts, large family meals, and homemade treats that created cherished memories for everyone. Many also enjoyed her famous German chocolate cakes and the delicious dishes she lovingly prepared for church dinners.
For more than 40 years, Sharlene was known throughout the community as “the Avon Lady,” building lasting friendships wherever she went. She welcomed everyone into her home with warmth and kindness, found joy in working in her yard, and delighted in feeding the hummingbirds that faithfully returned each year.
Words can never fully express all that Sharlene meant to her family. Above all else, she will be remembered for her unwavering love, generous heart, and determination—qualities that leave a lasting example for all who knew and loved her. Sharlene was the eldest of seven children born to Charlie and Esther Gilley on July 16, 1936, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She married Frank “Junior” Medlock Jr. in 1951, and together they made their home in Yukon, where they raised their three children on the family farm.
Following Junior’s passing, Sharlene later married Bill D. Read, and they shared many happy years together. Throughout her life, she was a devoted caregiver who consistently put the needs of others before her own.
She is survived by her children, Connie (Don) Paillou, Tommy (MaryAnne) Medlock, and Kevin Medlock; her grandchildren, Michael Paillou, Daren (Pam) Medlock, Chad (Sarah) Medlock, Stacy (Billy) Curtis, and Tracy (Jason) Hughes; her great-grandchildren, Rhyen (Kirsten) Romines, Hannah Medlock, Kacey Medlock, Bailey Medlock, Taylor Medlock, and Wyatt (Karlee) Hughes; her great-great-grandchildren, Paisley, Ellie, Millee Jean, and soon to be great-great grandson Romines; her sisters, Geraldine Wilson and Ruby Tompkins; and her brother, Delbert Gilley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Frank “Junior” Medlock Jr. and Bill D. Read; her brothers, Norman and Lawrence Gilley; and her sister, Virginia Strunk.
While her family will deeply miss her, they rejoice in knowing she is home with her Lord and Savior, reunited with those who went before her.
