With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stacy Jo (Skeen) Matherly who left us peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones and her two Doodle dogs (Sawyer and Saylor). She was born on June 11, 1969, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Donald and Jewel “Judy” (Honeycutt) Skeen. Stacy was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to all who knew her.
Stacy and Steven married on December 12, 1992. Steven often jokes about how they only dated for over 4 years before their marriage, and he didn’t see why she was in such a rush. They celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in December. Stacy and Steven had two children, Jillian Paige and Wil Dayton. Stacy was incredibly proud of them and loved them with her whole heart. Jillian and husband Zachary were due to welcome a baby boy (Lawson) into the world in February 2025 and Stacy could not wait to be a “Nan.” Lawson came into the world 3 weeks early and was able to meet his Nan before her passing.
Stacy was a lifetime learner. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 1992 and then a Master’s Degree in Business Education in 1998 both from Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. Stacy used her business degree in many ways throughout her life. She spent time as a business teacher, stockbroker, banker and realtor. Stacy and Steven sold the real estate business in December of 2024 and Stacy had plans to travel and complete mission work.
Stacy had a passion for people and her community. She helped establish the Cabool Education Foundation and loved volunteering for the Friends of the FFA. When Stacy was not working or volunteering, she enjoyed seeking the sunshine, spending time in her garden, making beautiful flower arrangements, baking, traveling, power walking, and playing with her dogs, Sawyer Bleu and Saylor Mae. She had a beautiful soul, and those who knew her will forever remember her for her unwavering faith, boundless love, and infectious laughter.
Stacy loved her tribe. She is survived by her loving husband, Steven, daughter Jillian (Zachary), son Wil, and grandson Lawson. Her sisters and their families, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins were all so special to her. She will be deeply missed, but forever loved and remembered by all whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace, reunited with her Heavenly Father, and many other loved ones she has now seen again.
A service to celebrate Stacy’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stacy Sunshine Memorial Scholarship at People’s Bank in Cabool.
