The Missouri State University West Plains Grizzlies played the State Fair Roadrunners on the afternoon of March 2, 2024.
The tip off is won by The State Fair Roadrunners and they get the first score of the game, a 3 pointer. After getting fouled in the first 2 minutes of the game, they get 3 more points against the Grizzlies, giving them an early lead of 6 to 0. The Grizzlies finally get a basket to make it a 8-2 game. The first half of the game starts of as a very fast game. The Grizzlies spend the time trying to catch up to the Roadrunners early lead. The Roadrunners stay over double the Grizzlies score, having an 18 to 8 point game. Missouri State University West Plains has a hard time keeping the ball and getting a shot, but they keep trying as they slowly score points here and there, bringing the game to a 5 point lead from the Roadrunners. After closing the score between the Grizzlies and the Roadrunners, the Grizzlies aren’t so keen on letting it widen again. They keep the game at a 5 point lead or lower as best they can as the Roadrunners try to pull away. After a technical shot, the Roadrunners finally pull farther ahead, bringing the game to 35 to 25. The Grizzlies push harder and bring the game up to a tie of 35 to 35, going on a huge scoring run. After the hard work and fast paced game of the first half of the game, the Grizzlies and the Roadrunners end at a tie of 37 to 37.
The Grizzlies make the first basket of the second half of the game, giving them their first lead of the game with a score of 39 to37. The game doesn’t slow down any as the two teams come back from halftime. The game stays fast paced as the leading score bounces back and forth between the Grizzlies and the Roadrunners. The Roadrunner slowly pull ahead of the Grizzlies. They take back a small lead of 7 points, at a core of 51 to 44. The Grizzlies work hard and bring the game closer, with the Roadrunners at a lead of 2 points. The Grizzlies push one more time and take a 2 point point lead of 53 to 51. The Grizzlies keep the lead as the Roadrunners try to score more and bring the game back their way. The game gets back to a tie of 59 to 59, giving State fair a chance to regain the lead from the Grizzlies. The game is tense for both teams as the end draws near and they stay tied, occasionally have one of them ahead by one point. The second half ends with the two teams tied at 65, bringing them into overtime.
The ball is won by Kyle Germany to start overtime. The Grizzlies make two baskets bringing the game to a two possession game at 69 to 67. The overtime game is very tense as the Roadrunners slowly close the Grizzlies lead, bringing it back to a 1 point game. Missouri State University West Plains Grizzlies make a quick move and bring it back to a 3 point game. Overtime ends with the Grizzlies taking the win at 79 to 73.
