COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 17/18 Mizzou Softball will play at home for the first time in the 2021 season this weekend. The Tigers have not played a home game since March 8, 2020. Mizzou swept Ole Miss in a three-game series before the season was cut short. Iowa State, Drake and Kent State will travel to Columbia for the tournament.
Mizzou has opened the season with a 15-4 record with ranked wins over Florida State and UCF. The Tigers will look to avenge one of their early-season losses against Iowa State. The Cyclones got the best of the Tigers at FAU’s “Strike-Out Cancer” Tournament. Mizzou allowed five unearned runs in the contest.
The Tiger bats have come alive to start the 2021 season with 74 extra-base hits in 19 games. Cayla Kessinger is coming off of a highly productive weekend at the Courtyard Marriott Tournament. The redshirt-senior batted .583 with two home runs and six runs batted in over five games.
Megan Schumacher has been efficient in the circle after a bumpy start to the season. In her first two outings, the sophomore allowed five earned runs. In her last seven appearances, she has not allowed an earned run. Additionally, Schumacher has not walked a batter in six appearances. Against Louisiana-Monroe in her previous outing, she went five innings and earned her first shutout of the season.
