The St. Louis Cardinals dipped back below .500 with a 7-4 loss to the San Diego Padres at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals trailed for most of the contest after surrendering two runs in the top of the first inning. Kyle Gibson was charged with his sixth loss after allowing seven runs on five hits in four-and-a-third innings, while Alec Burleson had three hits and two RBI in the losing effort.
