The Willow Springs Bears took on the Cabool Bulldogs in Cabool Friday night. Willow Springs came into the game 1-1. Cabool came into the game 0-2.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, but the Bulldogs had the clear advantage when it came to time of possession, keeping the Bears defense on the field for a good portion of the first quarter, wearing down the Bears with run plays to the right side of the field. That said, no one scored in the first quarter.

The ground game continued to dominate in the second quarter. With six minutes left to play in the half, the teams took a mandatory water break. The score was 0-0. The game remained scoreless at the half.

The first points of the game came in the third quarter with 8:16 on the clock. The Bulldogs executed a run play that went 16 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was good. 7-0 Bulldogs.

The pace slowed in the third quarter compared to the first two quarters.

Things picked up.

A long pass play put the Bears at the five yard line for a first-and-goal situation. Two running plays put the Bears in the end zone with a minute left to play in the third quarter. The extra point kick went wide. 7-6 Bulldog lead.

The Bulldogs responded with a touchdown pass. It was their second passing play of the game. The Bulldogs failed the two-point conversion. 13-6 Bulldog lead with a minute left in the third quarter.

A Bears 70-yard touchdown run resulted in a touchdown with 4:12 left to play in the game. The Bears opted to go for the lead, and attempted a two-point conversion. A pass play went into the end zone for a successful conversion. The Bears led 14-13. 

On the next drive, the Bulldogs fumbled, and the Bears recovered in the red zone with little time on the clock. The Bears took a knee to run the remaining seconds off the clock.

14-13 Bears victory.
