Willow Springs football opened up the season in Lincoln against the Cardinals Friday night.
It was a slow start to the game. The Bears offense was on the field for the majority of the first quarter. The Cardinals had a total of four offensive plays with 90 seconds remaining in the first.
The game was scoreless at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was much like the first. But on the Cardinals final drive of the first half, they successfully converted on fourth down twice on their way to a touchdown. After a successful two-point conversion, the score was 8-0 Cardinals at the end of the first half.
The Cardinals struck early in the second half, and completed another two-point conversion. 16-0 Cardinals with just over ten minutes to play. The Cardinals piled it on, adding another touchdown and two-point conversion. 24-0 Cardinals. As the third quarter approached its conclusion, the Cardinals scored another touchdown and another two-point conversion. 32-0 Cardinals at the end of three.
The Bears managed to get on the board with 6:09 left in the fourth quarter. A quick three-play drive ended in a touchdown that narrowed the Bears deficit to 32-7. A 67-yard running play for the Bears resulted in a touchdown with 28 seconds left. The Cardinals blocked the extra point.
Final score: 32-13 in favor of the Cardinals.
