Women’s Basketball Falls to Hot-Shooting Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – University of Missouri women’s basketball (15-6, 4-4 SEC) fell on the road at Mississippi State (12-7, 3-4 SEC) by a score of 77-62. The Tigers fell behind by as many as 19 points and could not overcome the deficit. The Bulldogs shot a season-high 51.9 percent from beyond the arc while hitting a season-high of 14.

Mizzou took an early 5-2 lead in the first quarter, but the Bulldogs quickly and commandingly took over. While trailing 7-5, Mississippi State went on a 16-4 run to take control of the game. Mizzou responded with an 8-0 run of its own to cut the Bulldog lead to only five at the end of the first.

Mississippi State’s three-point shooting kept it out in front through the second quarter. The Bulldogs finished the second half shooting over 62 percent from three.

In the third quarter, the lead stretched to as many as 19 points.

Mizzou cut the lead to only nine after a quick 8-0 run over the first 1:36 of the final period. However, the Tigers were unable to cut into the lead any more.

NOTES

The Tigers outrebounded the Bulldogs 34-22 on the night.

Mississippi State shot 51.9 percent from three. Entering the contest, the Bulldogs had shot 26.8 percent from beyond the arc entering the game.

Aijha Blackwell picked up her 16th double double of the season with 17 points and 16 boards. She dished out a season-high five assists to lead the Tigers.

Hayley Frank finished with 11 points and dished out four assists. She has scored in double figures in 11-consecutive contests.

UP NEXT

The Tigers will head to Tuscaloosa on Sunday to face off with the Crimson Tide. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. on SEC Network.
