Jail Scam Alert

From the Izard County Sheriff’s Department

The Izard County Sheriff’s Office is aware of a scam that has been reported in several nearby counties involving individuals incarcerated in local jails.

Scammers are using publicly available inmate roster information to contact family members and falsely claim that an inmate can be released from custody if money is sent immediately. In some cases, the caller may pretend to be a law enforcement officer, jailer, or other staff sheriff’s office staff and use other inmate names to sound convincing.
If you receive a call regarding someone incarcerated in the Izard County Jail, please remember:
• We will NEVER call and demand payment for the release of an inmate.
• We DO NOT accept bond payments over the phone.
• Legitimate law enforcement officers will not pressure you to send money immediately.

If you receive a suspicious call involving an inmate at the Izard County Jail and the caller requests money to he sent or personal information, hang up immediately and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 870-368-4203.
