John Wymer Tate, 76 years, 8 days old, passed peacefully through Heaven’s gate on September 23, 2022 at his home with his wife Kathy by his side.
John was born September 15, 1946 in Covington, KY to Frank and Norma (Wymer) Tate.
He was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. John served his country for four years.
John and Susan Diane (Pollett) were united in marriage on May 17, 1974 in Greens Fork, IN and they were blessed with two children, Jessica and John. She preceded him in death in 1990.
On September 8, 1995 John and Kathy (Huyler) Nelson were united in marriage at Englewood, CO.
He was a Probation Officer for the Montgomery County Ohio Adult Probation Department and a Miamisburg, Ohio Police Officer prior to his career with the federal government as a Department of Defense Systems Programmer.
John and Kathy moved from Littleton, CO to the Ozarks in 2016 following their retirement.
He was a devout Christian and an active member of The Denver First Church of the Nazarene for over 20 years. Upon their move to Ava he and Kathy became active members of the Highway Church of the Nazarene. John loved attending church and being involved in bible study and the men’s fellowship.
John was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Susie; and his sister, Fran Boyd.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Jessica Tate, John C. Tate, Katrina Hebb, and Ben & Annette Nelson; grandchildren, Lexi Hebb, Henry Hebb, Shayna Tate, Lizzie Nelson, Curtis Nelson and Matthew Nelson; his siblings, Marty McWhorter, Naomi Boseau and Jane Burton; extended family, his church family and many friends.
Funeral services for John will be Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Ava Highway Church of the Nazarene, Rt.2, Box 773, (N. Old Hwy. 5) Ava, MO. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. to service time. Burial with full military honors will be Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Rd., Springfield, MO. Officiating will be Pastor Brian Letsinger. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.
